Mathew Richard Christopherson died peacefully in Butterworth Hospital on July 17, 2020 in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the age of 32. Matthew is survived by wife Lauren Christopherson, son Bryce Christopherson, parents Jim and Lauri Christopherson, sister Alison Christopherson, grandparents Donald and Jean [deceased] Zuidweg, in addition to parents Deanna DeVos Vanden Berg, Dave Vanden Berg, grandparents Ray Vanden Berg, Pat DeVos, and brother Jake Vanden Berg.
Matthew was born on March 14, 1988 in Traverse City, Michigan to Jim and Lauri Christopherson. He was a mischievous child who enjoyed playing pranks on his sister, her friends, the dog, and even strangers. As a teenager, his adventurous and charismatic personality drew people to him. He made many friends in high school with whom he maintained strong ties with throughout his life.
He graduated from Traverse City West Senior High in 2006 and then moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan to complete the Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program at Ross Medical Education Center. He worked as a billing specialist at Blue Cross Blue Shield, Spectrum Health, and then at Trinity Health. He will be missed by his coworkers who remember him for his kind personality, commitment to his family, and enjoyment of golf outings.
In 2013, Matt met his future wife Lauren while they were both working at Metro Health and they eventually married in 2017. In 2014, their son Bryce (the “little man”) was born. Matthew loved being a father and a husband. On a weekday night, you would often find him at home watching Disney movies with his son or yelling at a television whenever the Michigan State Spartans or Green Bay Packers were playing. His enthusiastic spirit and passion for his family will be dearly missed by all.
The funeral and memorial will be private. Please send your donations here to Bryce’s college fund. The family would like to thank the ICU staff at Four Meijer Heart for their efforts and care.
