As some of you know, our Mom was recently diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. A diagnosis of triple negative breast cancer means that the three most common types of receptors known to fuel most breast cancer growth–estrogen, progesterone, and the HER-2/neu gene– are not present in the cancer tumor. When any of these hormones are present in the mass, the doctors know exactly how to treat it. When none of these hormones are present, doctors try to come up with a plan to figure out what to do to get rid of it and stop it from mutating.
This is a very rare form of breast cancer that effects less then 15% of all breast cancer patients. This is a very aggressive form of breast cancer and since not many people have it, they are still researching the best ways to treat it. Our Mom, was diagnosed only about a month ago, and will start her Chemotherapy this week. As far as we know, it hasn't spread to any other part of her body. She will undergo at least four months of chemotherapy and radiation, and it has a 50% chance of getting rid of the mass.
The doctors told her that she was no longer able to work, due to the risk of illness with the chemotherapy treatments. We are asking for donations to help offset the medical bills, co pays, prescriptions and the cost of regular living expenses. No amount is too small. We thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and kind words at this time. We will all pull together for Colleen's Journey and we will fight this battle one day at a time until we have conquered it!
