Most of you know my sweet mother, Colleen. And to know her is to love her. She has sacrificed so much over the years and that toll is becoming more and more evident each day. Being in ministry is an extremely rewarding and fulfilling “job”. I know my parents wouldn’t put a price on the experiences they’ve had, the people they’ve met and the gospel they’ve helped to spread. However, ministry isn’t a high-paying occupation. No retirement. No insurance. And sometimes, no income.
What you may not know about my mom is that she has had a lot of health issues over the last few years. She has suffered in silence. And after years of suffering and discomfort and not having health insurance, she has finally been able to see a doctor and get some answers.
The good news is: they have identified the problem! A paraesophageal hernia. Two thirds of her stomach has come up between her esophagus and diaphragm. This has caused extreme pain, sickness and inability to eat.
The not so good news: No health insurance! This surgery can’t wait. This condition can become life-threatening. Surgery is scheduled for THIS Friday, 8/21. The total hospital bill is approximately $35,000. Upon admission on Friday, we can apply for some financial aid through the hospital in an effort to get this amount decreased.
For years she has put off being seen because of no health insurance. She has been seeking employment and was working prior to COVID-19, when she was laid off. She has been looking for a new job ever since. God has made it clear that her health needs to be her main focus right now and has closed some doors to potential jobs with benefits. We know HE has a plan. We know HE will provide in HIS timing.
In the meantime, we are asking for help in easing the medical expenses associated with this surgery. This is not an outpatient surgery. She will be in the hospital 1-2 nights. Any amount that you can contribute will go directly towards this balance and will be greatly appreciated. Above all, we ask for your prayers for mom and all of the medical staff that will be taking care of her. No family will be allowed to attend/visit, so prayers for all of us are appreciated as well.
Thank you and God bless!
"And my God will meet all of your needs according to the riches of his glory in Jesus Christ."
