It is very hard for me to write this. My name is Colleen and I am a 45-year-old single mother to an 18-year-old daughter who graduates this year. I was diagnosed with CML, a type of leukemia, in January 2025. CML can be treated, but it cannot be cured or removed like other cancers. It unfortunately has a life expectancy of 15-20 years, regardless of treatment.
I have been out of work for a year due to debilitating symptoms from this cancer and other medical conditions. In February 2025, I was taken off Medicaid because my daughter is now 18. I no longer qualify for Medicaid because I do not have minor dependents, nor am I over 65 and on social security. Those are the two main qualifications for Medicaid. I am without insurance and only getting cancer care and treatment through a grant. I cannot afford to see any other doctor or specialist for any other reasons, as I am experiencing many medical issues. My mom has been paying my bills for a year. My daughter leaves for college in 4 months and I will be alone.
I am scared and I need help with additional medical bills, pet care and living expenses so I can see specialists and even just a primary care doctor. I would also like to see a psychologist to help me deal with my diagnosis.
If you can help in any way, I would appreciate it so much and so would my family.
