Hello Friends! My name is Stephanie Hughes Pratt and I have created this account to ask for help for one of my favorite people in the world, Colleen Hughes.

As you may know, Colleen was diagnosed with a rare cancer in her sinus. The tumor grew starting near her brain and down alongside her nose. She had a difficult surgery at NY Presbyterian Hospital and the talented surgeons believe they were able to remove everything. However, with the tumor being in such a sensitive area, they do not want to take any chances of it coming back or spreading.

Colleen has to undergo 6 weeks of radiation therapy, five days a week. She is hoping her insurance will cover proton therapy, which is less damaging than traditional radiation therapy. Proton therapy is a new development in radiation treatment which preserves more of the tissue than the traditional treatment. The less invasive proton therapy may preserve vision in her left eye and minimize impacts to her brain.

Colleen is self-employed and pays for her own health insurance. If the company covers the therapy, Colleen's co-pay is $250 per session, and she is facing 33 treatments. She also has to travel 33 time to NYC. We are also expecting out of pocket expenses associated with the treatment. As you can imagine, this will be a significant financial burden.
