Colin's Battle Against Cancer

This is a request for help on behalf of my sister Jessica and her husband Colin. Our family is no stranger to Cancer and while this is just another fight for us,  this time we need your help.



Earlier in September, I got a call I from my mother “Colin found a lump, it’s probably nothing”. Turned out, it was something. The worst kind of something…  Since then, this beautiful family has been battling a silent battle with cancer. Colin has just been diagnosed with Stage 4B Hodgkins Lymphoma and we are asking for help for the family to help cover expenses and loss of wages. 



Colin and Jessica’s romance ignited over the charbroiler at Montanas Rib House back in 2006 when they were just kids themselves.  In August 2010 the married and now have two amazing young children, David (7) and Dianna (2). Colin is a hard-working employee with CP Rail, an amazing husband and father, and die-hard Star Wars fan and unfortunately, a fan of the Vancouver Canucks (but we still let him in the family).  He never asked for this fight, but it is one he is determined to win!



The family has a very long road ahead of them and Colin is looking at a road map of 6 months of Chemo, which will keep him off work for at least 9 months.  This will be the first leg of the journey.

And this is where I ask for your help.

We are asking for Funds in support of this young family.  Colin’s employer has only short term disability benefits, and then will need to transition to EI with a substantially reduced income.  Jessica will also need to cut back on work as she supports the family and shuttles Colin back and forth to treatments.


This family needs to focus on the battle against cancer.  The weight of the added expenses associated with attending treatments, along with the decrease in income, is where we can make a difference.


Our goal is to raise $10k to support this young family as they prepare for a fight of a lifetime.  Cancer cannot take hope. Cancer cannot take love. But Cancer can bring a financial burden that we can help lighten.

I, Steve, Jessica's brother will withdraw the funds when Colin and Jessica request it. I will ensure the funds are redirected into their bank account in a timely manner. 

The funds will be used to cover lost wages as the young family waits for disability and mortgage insurance to kick in; as well as tide them over once disability benefits run out. There are many other expenses that occur with cancer treatment such as parking at chemotherapy appointments, additional medications and necessary supplies to keep Colin comfortable at home. The funds raised will also help cover these additional costs.
