Colin was a 49 year old dedicated father of two sons (Kieran and Kyle) married to Paula, his childhood sweetheart of 27 years . He was just going about his normal business when on Wednesday 24th July 2019 whilst cycling to the train station on route to work he was killed in what has been described as a "callous" alleged hit-run in Melbourne's north-west.
Colin who was a popular Railway Signalling Engineer of 31 years and most recently a contractor to Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) and previous to this V/Line and Network Rail (UK), migrated to Australia from the UK two years ago on a temporary skilled worker visa. His dream was to begin a new life with his family in Melbourne and he had assimilated in to Australian life with the plan to apply for permanent residency for him and his family to remain here.
If the trauma of Colin’s needless death hasn’t hurt Paula and the children enough, the situation has been further compounded by the fact that they (through no fault of their own) will not hold substantive Visa’s to remain in Australia given that Colin was the holder of a temporary skilled Visa class.
Colin was the only income source for the family who will now face considerable cost, uncertainty and upheaval in their lives.
We are launching this campaign to raise money for Paula and the children to help shoulder the burden of upcoming costs such as funeral, their potential repatriation to the UK and ongoing household costs.
