Hello everyone,
Heather and I have been married for almost 40 years (June 1984), and during that time we’ve encountered and overcome numerous and immense challenges. We have a typically Scottish determined and persistent spirit, and usually would just lean on each other and battle on when facing a tough situation.
We’ve been in a long tough battle recently, and it is taxing us to the extreme, physically, emotionally, mentally, and financially. Very untypically for us, we’re now reaching out, we humbly ask and need your help, your prayers and positive thoughts, and more practically we now need financial assistance.
About eight years ago Heather was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) a condition causing an irregular or rapid heart rhythm. Most people with the condition are successfully treated with medication. In some cases an ablation or a cardioversion is carried out to rectify the issue. Heather has been prescribed every medication there is for the condition and none have worked. She’s undergone three heart ablations and three cardioversions, again to no avail. Heather’s condition was termed as long standing persistent AFib.
The condition became so debilitating she had to give up work seven months ago. The rapid heart beat, chronic fatigue, shortness of breath, weakness, swelling, and syncope made it impossible for her to carry on. She loved working in the apparel department of Walmart, a job she had held for almost 15 years.
At around the same time as Heather was forced to give up work, our long standing apartment complex owner/landlords decided to retire and sell the property. A new property management company took over and within the space of three months raised the rent from $475 to $825 + fees, an increase of 73%. Without Heather’s wage, and the huge rent increase, we have been in a desperate struggle to make ends meet. Unfortunately, as Heather’s condition became more and more debilitating I made the decision to go from full time work to part time so that I could be home more to care for and support her. We can no longer sustain the financial burden. We have applied for income based housing and are looking at every way to survive.
Last week Heather had her cardiologist appointment, and her heart rate was so dangerously high that she was directly admitted to ICU in the hospital. After three days in ICU the decision was made for her to have an AV node ablation and pacemaker inserted. The surgery was done on Thursday 22nd February, however this coming week she will need to be admitted to UAB Birmingham to have the pacemaker “redone” due to issues she’s having.
Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers, and if you possibly can, please consider helping us with the enormous cost of our portion of medical bills, and associated costs. Please feel free to share our request.
Thank you all,
Colin & Heather
