Colin’s Fight
Donation protected
Hi my name is Sara I am starting this fundraiser for a wonderful friend who is also an extension of my family. She has helped our family and many others through good times and bad and now it’s time for us to return the favor. Here’s some information from Jen regarding the tragedy that occurred yesterday Aug 10th 2022
I’m Colin’s mom, Jennifer. Colin is the second child of 4 to parents Christopher and Jennifer Hatfield. We are an active mountain biking, salt water fish tank keeping, and animal loving family. Colin is your typical 18 year old boy, works par time at a local salt water fish store, hangs out with his friends and generally annoyed by his siblings. He is kind, helpful and a loving child. Colin’s father just switched jobs and we are waiting for health insurance to kick in after 90 days, he’s only been at the company for 3 weeks. I am humbled in asking for any sort of help paying for Colin’s treatment.
I woke to find my son Colin on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 around 7am, incoherent, unable to speak, or stand without help. We rushed him to the emergency room, he was immediately taken back and a CT scan was preformed and it came back clear and normal for a healthy 18 year old.
A neurologist came in for an assessment and ordered a spinal tap. A urine test was performed and temperature taken. Spinal tap came back positive for haemophilus influenzae meningitis, temperature 101.9 and his urine toxicology test came back clear/negative for drugs. As his mental state began to decline and he became more agitated, he was moved into a pcu floor.
His condition was being monitored, and he became more unaware, hallucinating, combative and his heart rate was rising. They made the choice to move him to the icu and get him sedated and calmed down. He continued to be sedated over night and into the next morning.
When I arrived at the hospital 7am on Thursday, August 11, 2022, he was still sedated and calm. Around 8:30 am Colin woke up as the neurologist Came into the room. He was aware of his surroundings and able to speak. The neurologist ordered an EEG. Around 11:00 am the infectious disease doctor came in and gave his recommendations for moving forward with treating Colin for haemophilus influenzae meningitis. Colin is going to be given interveinous antibiotics and steroids.
Any little bit helps!
