Less than two years ago, the annual SVBC staff retreat was held at the newly purchased home of Colin Heyne, SVBC’s Deputy Director of 6 years. Last week, that home was swamped in the floods that upturned the lives of many Downtown San Jose residents, 14,000 of whom were evacuated.

Colin is now out of his home along with his family which includes a 10 week-old baby boy. While he has flood insurance, there are many expenses that it doesn't cover. For example, rent and hotel costs while he and his family are out of their house for the next approximately 3 months are not covered.
