I'm doing this for my friend and one of our Sisters from Local 706. Colette Slattery was injured in a biking accident of May 2015 and has received two surgeries for her injuries and has another surgery this week. Colette was hoping to wait to get her disability account fully funded but due to pain and her injuries not properly healing her doctor and surgeon said it needs to be done in the next week.
Colette has always supported herself by working hard . After Colette was seriously injured she went to claim disability to help her get through her healing only to find out there was next to nothing to recieve. This happened when Colette worked out of state on a big blockbuster movie in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and the payroll company used to pay all the employees did not pay into her disability account. Colette has worked out of state on location over the last 20 years and never had a problem getting her disability account funded before. We then found out was that there has been a been a change in the last two years, and the payroll company has stopped funding the disability account automatically if you are working outside of California. This information has not been made known to everyone's knowledge and what was been taken care of by this payroll company for many years has changed and is no longer being done automatically as in past years.
Since last May, Colette has also used her personal resources to support herself and that is now depleted.
I'm asking everyone to help Colette so she can have her surgery and heal without the worry of losing everything she has worked for. The money raised is to pay her bills, living expenses and mortgage payment over the next four months so she can heal and get back to work.

I wish Colette the peace knowing she will be taken care of and she needs your help to have this happen and any amount of money you are able to give will help a lot. No amount is too little.
As you can imagine Colette is uncomfortable to be in this situation and in financial need. Before Colette's accident she thought she was taken care of if anything was to happen to her. But because of unclear changes to disability benefits, we need to step in and give Colette the support of all of us to get her through this difficult time in need.
