Colette's Cochlear Implant Processor Upgrade

As a parent, you think you can provide anything your child will need. After all that our family has been through with Colette's medical history, we are coming to a place where we don't see a way through.

Colette was diagnosed with high-risk Neuroblastoma IV at the age of 2. After a successful treatment plan of chemo, radiation and a stem-cell transplant, she was left with severe hearing loss that would eventually become profound. As a result, Colette has worn hearing aids since the age of 3, constantly taking regular tests and upgrading when necessary.

In 2014, Colette was implanted with a cochlear implant to improve hearing and speech comprehension significantly. Since then, she graduated from high school, worked a part-time job for over two years, and started attending college to earn a degree in Event Planning and Hospitality Management. However, the cochlear processor (the part on the outside like a hearing aid) has been failing, and we reached out to the company that builds them for help. After replacing multiple parts and batteries, the processor is no longer covered under any warranty and is being phased out and not supported. This means Colette needs an upgraded processor.

Over the past 12 months of pursuing this upgrade, we have learned that our employers' insurance plan no longer covered bone-conducting equipment, meaning that part in our daughter's head is useless at this point. We appealed the insurance decision, and after waiting a year, we finally were able to get the insurance and employer to make changes to the insurance policy. We were ready to have the new unit shipped and found out that we have to meet a $4000+ deductible before they will ship! There are no payment plans, no credit options, just a $4000 payment over the phone.

THIS IS DEVASTATING TO US! Colette has struggled with lack of hearing since the unit has been failing for more than a year, and she was accepted to an internship away from home for the upcoming summer, but SHE NEEDS TO HEAR!

Can you find a way to donate to her deductible? The processor is sitting on a desk in California, waiting on our payment, and she only has until May 15 before she leaves. We desperately need this assistance to help our child continue to grow and prosper and retain the hearing that she has left!
