Cole’s journey with NF1

On September 13, 2022, Brittany and Andrew Constant's third child, a beautiful baby boy, came into the world. A true product of his parents, Cole has brought love and joy to all those around him. In the last few months, Cole has faced a host of complicated health issues which have required Brittany, Andrew, and Cole's older siblings Quinn and Leo, to shift almost everything about their lives. Cole has spent countless days driving back and forth between physicians, therapists, surgeons, and other specialists, nevermind the numerous overnight stays in multiple hospitals. Recently, a diagnosis has begun to emerge, although not official: NF1. Neurofibromatosis Type 1 is a chronic genetic condition that causes tumors to grow along the nerves. While the tumors are typically benign, they cause a range of challenging symptoms and risk the child's vision and hearing as well as cause other, life-altering complications. Depending on the size and location of the tumors, treatment may be life-threatening. There is currently no cure for NF1. Surprising to no one at all, Brittany and Andrew continue to do everything in their power to support Cole and his fight against NF1. They have dropped everything to accommodate every test, appointment, therapy session, overnight hospital stay, doctor consultation, MRI, procedure, etc. For anyone who knows Brittany and Andrew, this is just who they are: selfless, loyal, and loving. We can all think of many times that they dropped what they were doing to be there in a time of need: to help clean the boat and get it into the water, for a fundraiser for a family member, for a wedding or baby shower, to stack a cord of wood, to lend a listening ear during a crisis, to dry out a basement after a flood, to help fix a flat tire. They are the best of all of us. They are our family. And now they need us.
