¡La escuela infantil y prescolar ‘Risen Day-Care’ y en un futuro próximo la Escuela de Primaria te necesita!
Hola! Nos encontramos en Tanzania, cerca de la ciudad de Mafinga, como voluntarios en "Risen Day-Care and Nursery School". Hoy nos gustaría compartir con vosotros la historia de una familia que encarna el sacrificio total por el bien de la educación: Robart y Nitike Mdamu y sus dos hijos Alice y Brian, que viven en la misma escuela sin agua corriente ni electricidad.
En un país con una notoria escasez de escuelas, recibir una educación adecuada es una hazaña. Robart y Nitike consiguieron graduarse como profesores de secundaria con la ayuda de familiares y vecinos, pero no pudieron ejercer por la falta de ofertas de trabajo. Para ganarse la vida vendían verduras en el mercado central de Mafinga. Hace dos años, el aumento de los alquileres les obligó a trasladarse a una nueva comunidad en las afueras. Cuando los vecinos se enteraron de que Robart y Nitike eran profesores, les pidieron que dieran clases a sus hijos. Al necesitar ingresos, él siguió trabajando en el mercado mientras ella empezó a dar clases a 4 niños. El número de estudiantes aumentaba tan rápido que esto impulsó a la pareja a fundar la Risen School. Muchas familias del barrio no pueden permitirse pagar las cuotas, así que Robart y Nitike han levantado la escuela con el apoyo de voluntarios y donaciones.
Junto con otras tres profesoras voluntarias, Crister, Angel y Nasra, la pareja ofrece educación básica en Swahili e Inglés a los niños de la comunidad. La Escuela Risen acoge ahora a 42 alumnos de 2 a 5 años, y ofrece desayuno y almuerzo diarios a estos. Algunas familias participan dando comida cuando pueden, pero otras no tienen medios para compensar a Robart y Nitike ni con una pequeña cuota ni con alimentos.
En la actualidad, la pareja se enfrenta al reto de pagar el alquiler mensual del terreno en el que se encuentra la escuela. Y recientemente gracias a la ayuda de muchos voluntarios y donaciones de todas partes del mundo han podido comprar su propio terreno y empezado a construir una nueva escuela. Además de la escuela infantil y prescolar, quieren abrir clases de primaria, para ofrecer al mayor número posible de niños la posibilidad de continuar con una buena educación y así poder elegir una profesión.
### FASE 1 ###
FINALIZAR LA ESCUELA INFANTIL, COCINA Y LAVABOS ### ESTA FASE SE HA FINALIZADO. GRACIAS POR VUESTRA COLABORACION!!!
Fuimos capaces de reunir el dinero necesario para terminar y abrir la escuela infantil el 10 de Enero tal y como prometimos.
--> 50 PUPITRES <-- HA SIDO UN TREMENDO EXITO!!!
Hemos conseguido obtener lo necesario para 50 pupitres. Ha sido un esfuerzo formidable por vuestra parte y por ello os estamos enormemente agradecidos. Muchas gracias a todos.
### FASE 2 ###
A continuación, el objetivo de los próximos meses es construir la escuela primaria para que los niños se beneficien de una educación básica de calidad.
Para completar el proyecto, necesitamos alcanzar 14.000€ para lo siguiente:
- Construcción de un edificio con dos aulas
- Mobiliario para el patio de recreo: Columpios/Deslizaderos/Sistema de juegos múltiples
- Zona deportiva
- Comedor
- Materiales y mano de obra para todo lo anterior
Futuro de la escuela
Nitike y Robart pretenden convertir el proyecto en una escuela autosuficiente. Para lograr la independencia financiera, están creando un sistema de permacultura, es decir, un círculo virtuoso. Al cultivar una gran cantidad de frutas y verduras, alimentarán a los alumnos y a su propia familia. El excedente se venderá a su vez para financiar otras necesidades, como la compra de material escolar y el pago de los salarios de las profesoras. El río que atraviesa el terreno regará el huerto y la granja, proporcionando también agua para las necesidades diarias de la escuela. Hasta ahora, Robart y Nitike han plantado con éxito cebollas, maíz, patatas, judías y aguacates, y cultivarán otros alimentos y árboles frutales a medida que avance el proyecto. También están criando tres cerdos que venderán cuando sean adultos, y comprarán pollos y una vaca para obtener ingresos adicionales.
La educación en Tanzania
Las escuelas públicas de Tanzania tienen muy pocos recursos. A medida que la población y los estudiantes siguen creciendo, el gobierno no se esfuerza lo suficiente por crear puestos de enseñanza. Por ello, algunos profesores de escuelas públicas tienen clases de más de 100 alumnos. Como las condiciones de enseñanza son realmente problemáticas, muchos alumnos abandonan la escuela primaria sin haber adquirido las habilidades básicas de lectura y escritura.
Otro tema relevante y trágico es el elevado número de personas con SIDA (VIH) en la región. Para Nitike y Robart es especialmente importante participar en la educación de los niños desde una edad temprana para que la prevención en las escuelas forme parte de un enfoque educativo global de la ciudadanía y la salud. Tienen niños a su cargo que han sido diagnosticados como VIH positivos. Otros niños han perdido a sus padres por esta enfermedad, y viven con sus abuelos u otro familiar.
¿Cómo podemos ayudar a Robart, a Nitike, a las profesoras y a todos los niños de la zona hoy ?
Cualquier tipo de donación es bienvenida para que podamos alcanzar nuestro objetivo de 14.000€.

Risen Day-Care Nursery and EYFS School and soon Primary School, needs your support!!!
Hi! We are currently in Tanzania near the town of Mafinga, as volunteers at ‘Risen Day-Care Nursery and EYFS School’. Today we would like to share with you the story of a family embodying total self-sacrifice for the sake of education: Robart and Nitike Mdamu and their two children Alice and Brian, who live at the self-made school with no running water or electricity.
In a country with a notorious shortage of schools, getting a proper education is a challenging feat. Robart and Nitike were able to graduate as high school teachers with the help of relatives and neighbours, but could not practice due to the lack of job offers. To make a living they sold vegetables at the central market of Mafinga. Two years ago, rising rents forced them to move to a new community in the outskirts. When the neighbours found out that Robart and Nitike were teachers they asked them to provide an education for their kids. As an income was needed, he continued working at Mafinga’s market, while she began teaching. First it was 4 children and then many more came. This prompted the couple to found Risen School. Many families in the neighbourhood cannot afford paying fees, so Robart and Nitike have erected the School with the support of volunteers and donations.
Together with three other volunteer teachers, Crister, Angel and Nasra, the couple offers basic education in Swahili and English to the kids in the community. Risen School now welcomes 42 students from 2-5 years old, providing a daily breakfast and lunch to every child. Some families participate by giving food when they can, but others have no means to compensate Robart and Nitike either in kind or in cash.
Currently, the couple faces the challenge of the monthly rent of the land plot where the school is located at their own expenses. With the help of many volunteers and donations from all around the World they have purchased their own piece of land and started building a new school. In addition to Day-Care Nursery and EYFS they want to open primary classes, so as to offer the largest possible number of children the chance to choose a profession and thrive.
### PHASE 1 ###
FINISHING THE NURSERY, KITCHEN AND TOILETS ### THIS PHASE IS FINISHED, THANKS FOR YOUR COLABORATION!!!
We were able to gather enough money to get the nursery open and running the 10th of January as promised.
--> 50 DESKS <-- IT HAS BEEN A HUGE SUCCESS!!!
We have been able to get the 50 desks needed. This has been an amazing effort from all of you and we are utterly grateful, thank you all.
### PHASE 2 ###
Then, the goal in the coming months is to build a primary school for the kids to benefit from a quality basic education.
To complete the project, we need to reach the goal of £12.000 for the following:
- One building with two classrooms
- Playground furniture: Swing Sets/Slides/Multi Play Set
- Sports area
- Dining room
- Materials and labour for all the above
Future for the school
Nitike and Robart intend to turn the project into a self-sufficient school. To achieve financial independence, they are creating a permaculture system, namely a virtuous circle. By growing a large amount of fruits and vegetables, they will feed their own family and the students. The surplus shall in turn be sold to fund other needs, such as buying school supplies and paying the teachers’ salaries. The river running through the land will irrigate the vegetable garden and the farm, also providing water for the daily needs of the school. So far, Robart and Nitike have successfully produced onions, maize, potatoes, beans and avocados, and will grow other foods and fruit bearing trees as the project proceeds. They are also raising three pigs to be sold when adults, and shall buy chickens and a cow for additional income.

Public schools in Tanzania have very few resources. As the population and students continue to grow, the government is struggling to create enough teaching positions. Therefore, some government school teachers have classes of over 100 students. As teaching conditions are indeed problematic, too many pupils leave primary school without having acquired basic reading and writing skills.
Another relevant and tragic issue is the high number of people with AIDS (HIV) in the region. It is particularly important for Nitike and Robart to participate in the education of children from an early age so that prevention in schools becomes part of a global education approach to citizenship and health. They have children in their care who have been diagnosed as HIV positive. Other kids have lost their parents to this disease, and live with a grandparent or other relative.
How can we help Robart, Nitike, teachers and every child in the area today?
