Cole is the son of a dear friend of ours, Jean Babbitt. He is 25 years old and the doting father to a 2.5 year old son, Elijah. Due to neurological changes that Cole’s mom and sister noticed, Cole was diagnosed with a cerebral aneurysm on 06/20/2018 and taken emergently to IU Health Methodist Hospital and underwent neurosurgery later that week to coil the aneurysm and to stent the arteries leading up to the aneurysm. Cole’s neurological symptoms (weakness on the left side of his body) improved drastically after the procedure and he was ultimately discharged to acute rehab to undergo intensive therapy prior to returning home. He did better than we could hope and actually was discharged to home to continue therapy later the following week. However, on July 4, Cole developed a severe headache. This prompted re-evaluation at Methodist by the neurosurgical team, and it was found that the stents in his brain had developed blood clots. He had a large stroke. These were removed, however the stents clotted again. This resulted in significant neurological deficits (significant weakness and hemiplegia- inability to move or use his left side). Due to the swelling on his brain, he underwent another urgent medical procedure to remove a part of his skull to allow for extra space while the brain healed from the swelling. He currently remains in the hospital. He is improving and we are hopeful that he will make a full recovery. However, this will be a long road with intensive therapy in order for Cole to make a significant recovery. Fortunately, Cole has been accepted into the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab in Chicago to continue his rehabilitation. Unfortunately, immediately prior to this medical emergency, Cole had changed employment. This means that he does not have any paid time off OR disability insurance. His family is coming together to help be his advocate while in the hospital as well as provide emotional, physical and financial support during this time. First and foremost, we would like to ask for prayers for Cole’s recovery and strength for the entire family as they come together to help Cole and Elijah. In addition to this, we would like to help alleviate some of the financial burden during this time so that Cole and the family can focus on the emotional and physical support that he needs. All monies obtained through this fundraiser will be utilized to pay Cole’s mortgage, truck payment, medical bills and other miscellaneous bills including travel costs for family to be with him in Chicago as he recovers. Any amount will be beneficial and will be put to good use. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser with others. Thank you in advance for your prayers and support.
