Cold Water By Philippa Lawford - Park Theatre
Donation protected
We are very excited to be bringing Cold Water, a new play by Philippa Lawford, to the Park Theatre for three weeks from 14 May 2024. We have currently raised enough money to secure our venue and to pay our actors a fee in line with Equity guidelines, but we need your help to get us over the line with some core production costs including key marketing and design elements for the show, including materials and fees for creatives.
We know that times are tough for everyone at the moment so we totally understand if you can’t help, but if you can spare anything to help us reach our target we would be very grateful.
Cold Water is the follow-up to Ikaria, our 2023 production which toured the UK, and it’s our company (Tightrope Theatre)’s first 3 week off-West End run, which is a great milestone for us. Cold Water will be published by Methuen Drama to coincide with the run. We are very proud of this play and we really want to do it justice with the production.
About the play:
When I’m walking with her the whole time I’m imagining I’m with someone else.
Who do you imagine?
You, sometimes.
After university, Emma moves back with her parents in Hertfordshire and gets a job at her old school, assisting in the Drama department. Before long, she’s spending every day in the studio with Matt, her boss. Matt decides to teach Emma everything he knows, and Emma feels her life starting to change.
Cold Water is a play about wanting things so much you can’t do anything about them.

Reviews for Ikaria, also by Philippa Lawford:
★★★★★ ‘Theatre is alchemy, but not the impossible kind. You can have all the right ingredients and mix them in the right quantities and produce something shiny - but to spin gold, you need something indefinable. This reviewer can’t quite explain what that is and I doubt theatremakers can either. But when it’s there, you see it - and it’s there in Ikaria.’
