Cold, Starving, Injured… Sophia’s Fight Isn’t Over

Donation protected

Hello everyone, my name is Sophia.
Well… actually, before today, I didn’t even have a name. I was just a nameless shadow, hiding in the corners of a small neighborhood in Strathfield.

I don’t know how old I am. Because of my tiny, frail body, the people who fed me thought I was just a kitten. But when the vet checked me, they said I’m not young anymore… (oops).

I was born a stray and have lived my whole life outdoors, sharing the neighborhood with a few other stray cats—stronger, healthier ones. There were also big black birds that bullied and pecked at me. Food was always scarce, and people weren’t very kind. The stronger cats could wander far to find meals, but I was too weak. I survived on scraps, sometimes finding cold leftover chicken legs covered in chili that burned my mouth.

About a month ago, a kind lady noticed me. She began visiting every few days with food and clean water. Slowly, I started to wait for her visits. Then she shared my story online, and more people came to bring me food.

But then, for one whole week, I disappeared. She was worried, not knowing that I had gotten hurt—one of my legs had become lame, and I could hardly eat.

Then came a week of heavy rain in Sydney. It was so cold and wet that I barely moved, When the rain finally stopped, hunger forced me out again. People that fed me contacted a rescue group to help catch me. I was too weak to resist, and they took me away from the streets.

At the vet, they found out my condition was critical: severe dehydration, anemia, a body full of parasites, a necrotic (dead) left hind paw, all my back teeth rotten, and seizures—possibly from bacteria entering my brain from the infection. I needed immediate hospitalization.

People didn’t give up on me. They told the vet to do everything they could. And I… I want to live, too.

I know I’m just an ordinary stray cat. For years, my life was simply “survive one more day.” But now, I’ve met people who care, and for the first time, I can imagine having a home—somewhere warm, safe, and full of love.

Maybe my life is already halfway over, but I still want to spend the rest of it being loved, not forgotten.

Unfortunately, the rescue group already has a backlog of fundraisers waiting to be posted. so they cannot fundraise for me. My treatment and recovery will require significant medical costs, so I am reaching out for help here.

How the Funds Will Be Used

Every dollar raised will go directly towards saving Sophia’s life and giving her a safe, loving future. Funds will cover:

  • Emergency Veterinary Care & Hospitalization

  • Surgery – Removal of the necrotic (dead) left hind paw and extraction of rotten teeth to relieve pain and prevent further infection.

  • the cost of her desexing surgery

  • Medication & Follow-Up Treatments

  • Special Recovery Diet – After her rotten teeth are removed, Sophia will only be able to enjoy soft meals and canned food for the rest of her life

  • Foster Care Support – Temporary safe housing until she is fully recovered and ready for adoption.

Any remaining funds will be used to support Sophia’s continued care, vaccinations, and eventual adoption into a loving home.
