My name is Janine Vickery, I am 43 & have incurable breast cancer now in my lymphatic system . Seven years ago, chemotherapy changed my life in more ways than one. I wasn’t offered the cold cap machine—a device that could have preserved my hair during treatment. Losing my hair wasn’t just about appearance; it felt like losing a part of my identity & dignity. It also effected my mental health massively.
When my cancer returned I was offered the cold cap & since then been through 25 sessions with the cold cap & not lost a strand . Since then, I’ve been on a mission to ensure no one else experiences this preventable loss. I’ve dedicated myself to raising funds so every hospital in the UK can offer scalp cooling. Hair loss should never be an inevitable side effect of treatment—it’s time to make this option accessible for all.
