Cold Cap hero’s

Help us purchase a cold cap to save Mom’s hair!

Some of may know my mom, some of you may not, but for those who do, they know the caring and selfless person that she is. What some of you may not know is that recently, for the second time in 5 years, she has started a new battle with breast cancer!

It all stared in late 2013 when she found a knot in right breast! At the time, her husband (my father) Dave was fighting his own battle with the ugly C word.  Unfortunately his battle was lost in 2015, but mom fought the good fight and WON! It was not without struggle, sickness, hair loss and complete hell, but she did it! In late 2017, mom once again noticed something was wrong and her tumor markers started to rise! From hospital to hospital and from doctor to doctor we went. One surgery and  procedure after another, we realized that the cancer had returned! This time with a vengeance.

Quickly we noticed that something had to be done and under the care of OSU and Springfield Regonial Medical Center she started back on chemo  therapy, yet again. She was so concerned with losing weight, feeling Fatigue and losing her hair all over again. The first tremants started in Mid April and seemed to be helping and the good news was the specific chemo she was taking (Carboplaten) typically doesn’t cause hair loss and would be more tolerable than treatment before! The bad news as we are finding out is that the treatment isn’t working as well as is should and needed to be changed...

We just recently learned last week that her chemo regimen will be changed very soon to that of adriamycin, which is an aggressive form of chemo and almost certainly will cause hair loss.  I know most men and even some women will say, it’s just hair, it will grow back…   But to someone who is sick and watching their body change in front of their eyes, it is a very important part of them, something they don’t have to cover up, feel bad about or to be a constant reminder of treatment.

Recently through lots of research and some advice from a friend, we have learned of cold caps!  Cold caps is a university recommended regimen to prevent 60% of hair loss during chemo treatment!  Immediately I knew this is the option we wanted to go with, but I didn’t know is how costly and how timely it needed to be in order to be effective. Most cases require you have the equipment before your first treatment or your chances of saving your hair diminish drastically.  This is a breakthrough technology that is filled with dry ice to help freeze the hair follicles before and after treatment! It also has a very specific regimend use in order to be effective.

What we are asking for is a little help!  The standard monthly payment alone just to have the cap is $379. When ordering in your first month you also have a $379 (refundable) deposit and a $199 rush delivery fee. Dry ice costs are not included. This bring the total first payment to almost 1,000 dollars!  Those who know my mom and our family know we are very prideful and it is a hard pill to swallow to ask for help, but this could be a game changer to her treatment plan, vanity aside!

If you cannot help  financially, all we are asking for as a share and a prayer, as we do believe in the power of!
