Hi everyone!
Colby is our 9yo Maine Coon mix boy that has been in my (Valentina's) life for six years now, when I met my fiancee Ryan he knew Colby's name before he even knew mine! We have been a family ever since and adopted a brother (Jackson) for Colby about three years ago. Ryan and I are recent first time homebuyers and are getting married this year.
On Saturday 1/8/22 we took Colby to the vet because he seemed to have suddenly lost weight, we were expecting maybe he was a bit backed up and they ended up finding a 4.5 by 2 inch mass on his small intestine.
Our options are either palliative care until we have to make the decision to put him down, which with a mass that size would not be long, or surgery to have it removed. The vet was able to get a sample of the mass and have narrowed it down to two things, either a mast cell tumor (cancer) or fibroplasia (inflammatory disease), both of which the best next step is to have the mass removed. They'll remove the whole mass along with a portion of his intestine then reconnect the intestine that's left, and it will all get sent off to a lab for further diagnosis.
The initial emergency visits have already cost nearly $3,000 which we put on a new credit card that was supposed to be for our honeymoon, the high end of the estimate for surgery is $6000.
Colby's surgery is scheduled for Thursday January 27th, he'll spend the night and if everything looks good we'll get to pick him up on Friday!
