Hi everyone, for those of you that know us, Colby Jack is a member of our family. On December 28th he had a routine TPLO surgery to fix a torn ACL. On 1/12, he had his first follow-up where doctors were amazed at his progress. But this past weekend, Colby started shaking and seemed uninterested in food. We thought maybe he overdid it and was having some pain, so we brought him to his vet. The vet found that Colby's red blood cell count was extremely low, which resulted in anemia. This type of anemia is caused by his body attacking his own cells. This is something called immune-mediated hemolytic anemia. This was most likely caused by his surgery or the medications used afterward. In order to recover, Colby was admitted to the ICU and is being given blood transfusions and medications in order to suppress his immune response. Our pet insurance is maxed due to his surgery, and the low end of this hospital stay will cost $5,500; we are trying everything we can to get him over this hump and bring him home. I am currently just coming off of maternity leave and in school full time. I know times are extremely hard, but anything will help, even if it is just good thoughts for Colby. Thank you so so much!
