For all of you that know Colby, you are used to his quick wit, his smile, and his silly laughter. Some of you know him from his love of animals (especially the odd ones), possibly from his stent working in local restaurants around Knoxville, tinkering on cars, selling you a house, or maybe just sharing a beer and few funny stories. No matter the reason or the circumstances of your introduction, you are aware of his open offer to lend a helping hand. Due to some unforeseen issues, now is the time I kindly ask for you to lend him your kindness. Whether it is monetary or simply just sharing your well-wishes and support, all are welcome!
While having some imaging and testing done on his back due to herniated discs, unfortunately, doctors have located another issue. Preliminary diagnosis is currently syringohydromyelia. Yeah. I had to look it up too. I'm not even going to attempt the pronunciation. Essentially, it is a rare disorder in which a fluid-filled cyst forms within your spinal cord. This cyst is referred to as a syrinx. As the syrinx expands and lengthens over time, it compresses and damages part of your spinal cord from its center outward. Doctors here in Knoxville have recommended that Colby travel to the Mayo Clinic for further imaging and to run a battery of tests to pinpoint exactly what he has, what caused it, and how to best move forward with treatment or surgery. As one can imagine, "It ain't gonna be cheap."
This is where you come in! I am asking that if you can help in anyway, please do. Colby will be making this trip alone as of last update. He has appointments at the Rochester Minnesota Mayo Clinic and will be heading up next week. I know it is a bit last minute, but I assure you, the bills will continue to roll in. Additionally, Colby is having some t-shirts printed up with his beloved Pheobe Raccoon on them. They will be at Trailhead Beer Market for purchase very soon. Again, please lend a helping hand if you can. If you are not able, send along a kind word and let him know that we are all thinking of him.
I know we've got an awesome crew of friends and every little bit helps right now! Thanks guys!
