Colby Burl's accident

Donation protected
On December 17th, 2020 around 1:30am, Colby was on his way home from work when he came across a serious vehicle accident on MD 295. He pulled to the shoulder to render aid. When he exited his vehicle to help a driver involved in the accident, a vehicle traveling on MD 295 lost control of his vehicle, striking Colby and the vehicle he was standing next to. Colby suffered extensive injuries, to include a horrific femur fracture. Colby was able to climb over the guard rail, removing himself from the roadway, and tie his belt around his leg, acting as a tourniquet- notably saving his own leg and life. Colby was transported to the R Adams Crowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he underwent emergency surgery to save his leg. He will require at a minimum, 6 months to a year, worth of therapy, which will require time off of work. Colby married his high school sweetheart just 2 years ago and they just recently in September purchased their first home together. Colby works two jobs to make ends meet, and he will now be out of those jobs for roughly a year while he is rehabilitated. Colby is a National Guard Veteran and is always helping those in need, which is how he got injured. We understand that given the current climate, during the COVID-19 pandemic, lots of people have lost their jobs and are struggling to make ends meet- but we beg that if you are able, please consider helping Colby and his wife, Lauren, get through this unexpected tragedy that occurred just one week before Christmas. Any money raised will help pay any/all bills Colby and Lauren will receive from the emergency surgery and hospital stay, all outpatient physical therapy costs, and will help to supplement Colby's lost income while he recovers to ensure that they don't lose their new home. We have set our goal at $10,000 however, we are sure we are under estimating what a year of work lost and physical therapy will cost the Burl family, and would be thrilled to surpass that goal. Thank you for reading, happy holidays, and remember to hold your loved ones tight!!!!
