Coillte Step Challenge 2020
Donation protected
The Coillte Step Challenge is a six week walking challenge that supports staff to be more active. It will be run from Monday the 24th of August to Sunday the 4th of October 2020.
The Step Challenge is a team event. Each team will have 5 members with one person acting as team captain. We encourage employees to look beyond their immediate team and consider forming a diverse team with colleagues across the business and varying fitness levels. Each team member can track their steps through a variety of ways such as an App on their phone or using Fitbit and should report their weekly steps to the allocated Team Captain each Monday morning for the previous week. Team Captains will be responsible for registering their teams and entering the total number of steps for their team members onto a designated Microsoft Form each week. At the end of the 6 weeks the winners will be announced!
Why are we launching this?
The aim is to get you walking and counting your steps daily to promote a healthy lifestyle and improve overall health and wellbeing.
Most of us walk between 3,000 to 5,000 steps a day. We challenge you to make up the extra steps so that you reach the goal of 10,000, which is the recommended number of steps for health benefits. Steps can be accumulated in many ways - Take the stairs instead of the lift, Walk during your break and after work. You can break up the steps into ten minute walks at a time and still get your health benefits.
As part of this initiative we are also incorporating support for the charity Women’s Aid, which has been deeply impacted by Covid-19. Women's Aid is a leading national organisation that has been working in Ireland to stop domestic violence against women and children since 1974. In light of the current climate and in order to support this initiative we have created a GoFundMe Page where any employees or Step Challenge participants can donate.
