Cohen’s Vertical Talus Journey
Thanks for following along with our journey & vertical talus! As many of you know, Cohen was born with a rare foot deformity- Veritcal talus. We did not he had this until birth.
Cohen was misdiagnosed with club foot at birth & sent to the top orthopedic surgeon at Vanderbilt. Cohen was in a full leg cast from 2 weeks-7weeks, had foot surgery, then in a second cast for 7 more weeks. While we saw an amazing orthopedic surgeon who was able to correctly diagnose Cohen with vertical talus- with it being so rare he was unable to fully correct it. Leaving his foot only partially corrected will lead to relapse, extreme pain when walking, etc.
After extensive research, I came across Dr. Dobbs down in West Palm Beach, FL. Dr. Dobbs is the doctor that created the method to fixing vertical talus. We will be heading down to Florida in June to have Dr. Dobbs himself fix Cohen’s foot- correctly this time. Cohen will need to go through more weekly casts, 2 surgeries, and then be in a boots & bar brace until 2-3 years old, but at least it’s completely curable when fixed correctly.
The money raised will go to medical bills as tricare will not cover it all being that Dr. Dobbs is out of network, our 3 week air bnb stay, and the multiple flights and hotels throughout our upcoming 3 year journey with this.
