Cognitive Function Therapy for Eden
Donation protected
On Nov 10, 2015, Eden was in an accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury. She has progressed so much since then but still deals with daily headaches, increased fatigue, and difficulty concentrating, studying, and remembering things. Because she is only 20, her brain is still developing and she is a prime candidate for Cognitive Therapy, which we would like to provide for her before she returns to Brigham Young University-Idaho in April, 2017. This link gives more information on the care she will recieve and the high success rates they have had with other brain injury patients.

Eden will spend a week in Utah where she will undergo "functional" imaging (mri, etc) where they map the amount of blood flow to certain areas in her brain while they have her complete different mental tasks. With that, they measure which areas of the brain are hypoactive and which are hyperactive and then base the cognitive therapy from there. After a week of intensive treatment, they will work with her remotely to help her continue to progress. Because it is out-of-network for us and because (while they are achieving very good results) some of the care is considered experimental, it is not well covered by our insurance. We can cover the travel costs and stay with family while we are in Utah, but our cost to the clinic for these services will be $7,900, due at the beginning of her care. At this point, we are still working to pay off the medical bills from her surgeries, physical therapy, and neurological care she received here in SD following her accident.
Those who know Eden know that in addition to being a very loving and helpful person, she is very self-driven and talented. Any help you can give to help her heal and reach her potential would be greatly appreciated!
We really have hopes that she will eventually make a full recovery! It has been a long road this past year, but she is doing so much better. At first, all she could do was lie still in a quiet, dark room or else the nausea and head pain was too intense. And also, thanks to a very talented surgeon here in SD, her bones have been reconstructed and aligned and are almost as good as new! She even got to get all the hardware taken out. Now she just has to be super careful while they finish healing. But thanks again so much for helping and for sharing!
*Rebecca (Eden's mom) will withdraw the funds and take them to the Clinic.
