In January, Brian and Kayla Cogley received some devastating news that their 1 yr old son, Grant, has epilepsy. Grant was admitted to Children's Hospital and underwent extensive testing. In February, Grant was diagnosed with Lennox Gastaut Syndrome, a complex and severe form of epilepsy that tends to be resistant to treatments. Affected children experience several different types of seizures most commonly atonic, tonic and atypical absence seizures. Children with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome may also develop cognitive dysfunction, delays in reaching developmental milestones and behavioral problems.
On top of managing Grant's seizures, medication trials, food allergies, and taking care of their other two sons, Connor and Brock, Kayla and Brian found out that they were expecting their fourth child. This pregnancy has not been easy. At 16 weeks, Kayla was diagnosed with placenta previa, and then later was admitted to the hospital at 23 weeks. Once she was discharged, she was told to be on strict bed rest at home. Kayla continued to have complications and was re-admitted to the hospital at 26 weeks, where she remains today. As you can imagine, this has caused a tremendous amount of stress for the family.
For those of you that do not know Brian and Kayla Cogley, they are the most friendly and kindhearted individuals out there. They would give their shirts off their backs to anyone in need. They don't like to ask for help but that's where we all come into play. Many of you have been asking "what can we do to help?" This is your opportunity to lend a hand. Your contributions will go towards medical costs for Grant and Kayla. These funds will also help to offset any additional bills that Brian and Kayla will receive. If anything, this will provide a sense of security, not stress, as I'm sure they are feeling at the moment. No contribution is too small!
In addition to this GoFundMe, many individuals have asked to cook a meal for Brian and Kayla. We have put together a meal train. Any type of meals are welcome! Connor and Brock are not picky eaters but if anyone has great dairy free and nut free recipes, those are welcomed too due to Grant's allergies. Gift cards to restaurants and grocery stores are also great options for Kayla and Brian.
