Global Coffee Culture Trip

In March 2015, a group of 10 Providence College students will be traveling to Nicaragua to study Global Coffee Culture. We will be meeting with members of different communities to learn about coffee making, the importance of coffee for the community, how the disease, coffee rust, influences communities throughout Central America, and how coffee sales affects the workers' incomes. We will also get the opportunity to visit coffee farms and spend a night at a homestay with a local farmer and his/her family. This trip will be an incredible opportunity to learn about the Nicaraguan culture and learn about the process of growing, trading, and distributing coffee.

Prior to and following the trip, our class will be working closely with Common Grounds Cafe, a cafe started by Providence College students. In an effort to unite the PC Community and the Smith Hill Community, members from both communities are hired to work at the Cafe. In addition, their coffee is fair trade and their food is from local businesses. We will be working closely with the Cafe to create and host events, increase their popularity using social media, and much more.

Please help support our trip to Nicaragua and applying what we have learned to better our own community!

If you wish to make a tax-deductible donation, please send your donation directly to Providence College. The check should be made out to “Providence College”, with “Feinstein GSL Coffee” in the memo line. You will then get a letter from the College with information on your gift, and we will record your gift ourselves on this page!
