Hiking up the biggest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis, to help raise awareness for Coeliac Disease in children.
This is my daughter Aurbrie, she is 8 years old and has Coeliac Disease.
Aurbrie was diagnosed in February 2022 at the age of 7 after months of her suffering in pain, severe low iron and numerous skin flare ups. We was back and forth from The doctors, speaking to nutritionists and even paying for private appointments to try and find out what was causing her pain and such severe bad skin.
Finally after pushing and pushing by my wife they tested her for Coeliac Disease, and it came back positive.
Living with an 8 year old with Coeliac Disease is not easy, she can’t just go to McDonald’s, she can’t just go to any restaurant and she can’t just eat what everyone else is eating and sleep at friends houses without us providing lots of information to them on what she can and can’t eat. This isn’t just upsetting for her but also us as a family.
My wife and I have realised that it is so difficult to support a child with a Gluten Free Diet. Schools need to be educated on how to support children, Restaurants need to accommodate children's Gluten free meals instead of only offering an adult meal and Supermarkets need to stop cashing in on the "Free From" ranges as these are essentials we are having no choice but to pay for as this is not a lifestyle choice it is a life changing disease.
1 in 100 people have Coeliac Disease and only 36% are diagnosed. I want to raise money for Coeliac UK and help raise awareness for children with this life changing disease.
Myself and my best friends will be hiking up the biggest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis and all donations will be going directly to the Coeliac UK and everything donated will help towards them improve and maintain their research team.
It costs £62.50 to keep their Helpline running for an hour to help families and people with Coeliac. And £500 to keep the helpline running for a day.
Thank you
