Cody's Journey: From ICU to Healing at Home

My name is Laurie and Cody is a big part of our family! We love him and hate that this is happening, but here is how we can all help…

As many of you are aware, but some are not, Cody McAllister contracted and has been fighting the flu & RSV for weeks, but unfortunately, it developed into pneumonia and sepsis. After visiting urgent care on Friday, 1/31/25, Cody was taken by ambulance to the emergency room due to critically low oxygen levels. That night he was put into ICU, and the following morning he was sedated and placed on a ventilator. The first couple of days were very touch and go, as he was literally fighting for his life since he was so sick, but he has slowly shown improvement! Attempts to reduce sedation medication have been met with restlessness and combativeness, making it difficult to remove the ventilator. On 2/6/25, Cody underwent an MRI brain scan to investigate potential complications arising from oxygen deprivation; THANK GOD the results came back satisfactory. On Friday, 2/7/25, the ventilator was removed, and Cody is now breathing independently. The sepsis has cleared, but Cody is still battling pneumonia and the severe effects of the sepsis and being on the ventilator for 6 days! He doesn’t know what is happening or how long he’s been in the hospital, but tomorrow, 2/8/25, they are hoping to move him out of ICU and into a regular hospital room! If all goes well, Cody will be moved home in about a week, but then home health care, physical therapy, and who knows what else will start!

Cody’s recovery will be a long/lengthy process and many people have reached out to see where they can help. While the majority of medical expenses have been covered, there will be many unexpected expenses like home health care, unexpected medical costs, counseling for the family, along with Cody and Susannah’s temporary inability to work. Any contribution, whether it be financial or continued prayer, will be instrumental in supporting Cody, Susannah & Cruz during this challenging period.
