Hey Friends,
For those of you who don't know me my name is Cody Calhoun and I currently live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. (Yes, that is a state in America haha) As 2016 began, I embarked on a journey to truly grow near to the Lord and God definitely showed up. There is simply one word that I believe beautifully illustrates the point that God revealed as I sought him and that word is obedience.
A bit of back story: I currently attend the Univeristy of New Mexico and graduate in May 2016 with my Bachelors in Marketing with a Minor in Economics. I have a wonderful job with an oil company and live in a Christ centered home with my best friends . From the outside looking in, my life looks pretty awesome and to be honest, it is.
One morning as I was reading Philippians 1, Paul describes himself and Timothy as servants in of The Lord Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:1) The study I was doing at the time asked me how I describe myself and initially I said, "Oh easy, as a servant of The Lord Jesus Christ." Then in my inner most being the question was posed, "Well how?" This two word question threw my mind in a frenzy. I began to seek affirmation of my statement but came up with weak arguements. At that moment I "took off my sandals" (Joshua 5:15) and asked The Lord what he was to have his servant do. Ever so clearly the organization YWAM stuck out to me. Initially I questioned, why would He have me leave my seemingly perfect life? At that moment I remembered the verse of Matthew 16:24-25 "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and pick up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it but whoever loses their life for me will find it." Through this and other affirmations, I pursued the YWAM Extreme DTS program in Queenstown, New Zealand in October 2016.
YWAM or Youth With A Mission, is an international volunteer ministry with a mission focus. The program I will be attending is a 6 month program. 11 of the weeks I will be attending schooling, learning how to draw nearer to our Lord and how to tell others about Him. After this schooling we will be doing a 9 week outreach somewhere in the Pacifics or South Asia. (Yet to be determined) As part of the Extreme DTS program, we will be going to the furthest out villages, in the most remote locations. Through the years God has does miraculous things via YWAM and for this mission I expect nothing less.
Here is where YOU come in. Attending this program is no easy feat but I know my God is faithful. I would love for you to partner with me through this, however that may look for you.
The cost of this program is broken down like this:
Flight: $ 2,500 (roughly) usd
Lecture Phase: $4,350.17 usd
Outreach Phase: $3,979.23 usd
Total cost: $10,829.40 usd
If you feel lead to give financially, no matter the amount, I am truly grateful. If giving financially is not something you can do at the moment, that is OK! God provides and of that I am sure. I can still use your help by praying for the organization. For the hearts of those The Lord will bring us to; that we may best represent the love of the Lord. For perseverance of faith for my fellow classmates and myself. That when times get tough (and when they aren't) we seek the Lord as our strength and refuge. For our leaders, that the wisdom of the Lord is upon them.
I will be creating a blog and email chain to give updates throughout my time there.
