Hi Everyone!

This is Crystal, Cody's Sister. I wanted to take the time to update all of those that have already donated ( THANK YOU!) and, to also add more details for the purpose of this GoFundMe page.

As you can imagine, it has been hard for Mom and me (and everyone that knew him) to process losing Cody. What is harder to imagine is the struggle that Cody had been experiencing for quite some time. It warms our hearts hearing the stories and the impact that Cody had on all of you. I have heard multiple times about his infectious smile, his ability to bring humor into all situations, and the light he shined so brightly for those around him.

Many people did not know about the struggles he faced every day because he didn't want to be a burden. He wanted to help every living being around him (humans and animals, alike), despite his own battles he fought every single day. His family and his close friends tried their best to help when he needed it, but multiple systems that were supposed to help failed him tremendously. Starting with our school system, then our military, then it was the medical facilities that are built specifically for the problems he was facing. Yet, it wasn't enough. Of course, I am not blaming any single system for the outcome of this situation, but I do think there is a major disconnect when it comes to mental health and receiving the help that is needed by the individual. Cody experienced this firsthand and felt the same.

Cody’s dream was to serve a higher purpose and change what he could in the world. He wanted to find ways to connect with the people that suffered as he was and figure out how to get others to listen to the true issues that needed attention.

This is why, in the meantime, we are creating a nonprofit organization in his name - to help those that cannot help themselves. To help those that get caught up in the vicious cycle in our current systems. If we can save or comfort one individual, or family, and bring a light to the foreground of how to better grasp and help heal the mental health world, we are honoring his dream. And this dream is priceless!

We are collecting personal stories and experiences, talking with local facilities, taking donations, and doing all we can to find that disconnect. Slowly, we will help build that bridge and bring Cody's dream to fruition.
