Coding for Lebanon-Explosion Emergency Relief

I am Issam, a 9 year-old London born Lebanese boy. I am starting a fundraiser for my home country of Lebanon that has been suffering an acute economic crisis, a severe Covid -19 epidemic, and recently devastated by a massive explosion.

 On Tuesday 4th of August, 2700 tons of ammonium nitrate exploded in Lebanon’s capital, Beirut. The explosion was so big it could be heard from Cyprus and has left more than 150 people dead, 5,000 wounded, and more than 300,000 without homes.  

Lebanon has also been facing an acute economic crisis that has been worsened by Covid-19. It is a big hit for the whole country but those that are most vulnerable are experiencing the most damage.  

I am so disheartened by what is happening. I have been worried about my family and my loved ones, and the future of those most vulnerable. I want the people of my country to survive and prosper to make Lebanon beautiful again.  

This is why I have decided to raise donations for a charity and an NGO supporting Lebanon. My target is to raise at least £1,000 to be split equally* between the Children Cancer Center of Lebanon (UK) and The Farah Social Foundation. 

To do so, I pledge to design and develop an app by the 15th of Sept 2020. I will share my progress with you throughout , provide you with videos and photos of what I will be working on, and will share the app once it’s completed.  

The Children Cancer Center of Lebanon (UK)– A UK registered charity that supports the Children Cancer Center of Lebanon ( CCCL). CCCL is a regional pioneer in pediatric cancer treatment with a mission of hope and a healthy future for our dear children; where they are treated free of charge, with no cost at all on their parents. Therefore, CCCL relies purely on donations. The CCCL center was damaged badly due to the explosion. It will need your support to continue treating kids with cancer as well as  kids that have been transferred from other hospitals after the explosion.

Farah Social Foundation – Is an NGO that has been providing Humanitarian Aid and support to people in need  with a focus on rural development and youth empowerment. Since the explosion, they have been on the ground distributing much needed essentials and food to the affected families, offering psychological and social support to both adults and kids that were traumatized by the explosion, helping clean up the streets in Beirut, and providing equipment and food to the various volunteers.

* Note: We will split the net donation amount after the GoFundMe transaction and other transfer fees.  As we have two charity recipients, and GoFundMe doesn’t currently allow for splitting to take place using its platform, we have to move this net amount briefly into our personal bank account prior to sending them to the recipients. For complete transparency, we will ensure to post proof of transfer and any charges ! Of course as Issam is a minor, all the fund related tasks will be managed by his mom Salma.
