'CODEC' - Short Student Graduation Film

Introduction:

Welcome to the Crowdfunding page for ‘Codec’ – an Anglia Ruskin University student Graduation film.

Simply put, Codec is a short film about betrayal. It’s a dramatic tragedy for the digital generation, intertwined with romance and coming of age.

Logline:

In the uncertain period just before graduation, four young friends meet in an isolated family home for a birthday party, but when an unwanted visitor arrives, brutal truths are unearthed, and their bonds begin to be violently ripped apart.

Inspiration:

For inspiration, we look to the films of Michael Haneke and Yorgos Lanthimos, specifically their stylistic choices and their portrayal of human relationships and violence, but also Film and TV that focuses on young adults, romance and coming of age – such as Never Let Me Go (2010), The Wilds (2020-22) and Sex Education (2019-).

This is our Graduation Film – it will be the culmination of all of our work over the past three years of our course at Anglia Ruskin University, and our final chance to make something brilliant to start our careers as filmmakers.

This film requires 5 actors, all of whom need to be brought to the location, accommodated for, and fed – and the funds we raise here will make that possible. The funds will also cover costs such as location, costume and makeup, props and our ability to submit the film to festivals – something that is vital for our careers as young filmmakers.
