Audiology Mission Trip to Guatemala
I'm excited to report I've been invited to join a medical mission trip to Antigua, Guatemala. For 10 days this May, I will join a group of doctors and surgeons as we serve the poor and sick at Las Obras Hospital . As one of the team's two Audiologists, I will be checking for ear infections, performing hearing tests, and fitting individuals with solar-powered hearing aids.
In Guatemala, where 75% of people live below the poverty line, medical care is a luxury. Childhood ear infections often go untreated and can develop into permanent hearing loss. Our team will provide medicine, perform surgery and administer rehabilitation to Guatemalans who would otherwise go without.
The trip is facilitated by a group called Faith in Practice, a non-profit based in Houston that has more than 20 years of experience international aid. After years of running my own philanthropic trips to Oaxaca, Mexico, I look forward to learning how this mission is organized. My future trips to Oaxaca and elsewhere will undoubtedly benefit from this experience.
As volunteers, we are asked to fundraise for our trip to Guatemala. This includes airfare, lodging, living expenses, as well as funds to purchase audiology supplies. If you're able, please consider making a donation to help me make this trip possible and help bring healing to the poor of Guatemala.
Any amount, no matter how small, can help achieve my goal of raising $2,500.00.
Trip dates: May 5-15, 2016
Fundraising Goal: $2,500
