Students Mission Trip to Bolivia
Donation protected
College has been quite the experience so far. Many of us students have found, through our college experience, that we are called to serve and that are hearts are pulIed to individuals who have fallen victim to circumstances beyond their control. I happen to have some exciting news! A group of Eastern University students is organizing to participate in the 2016 Bolivia Service-Learning Trip and I would like to share with you what this trip is about.
The group leaves to Bolivia on July 27th and returns to the U.S. on August 9th. This year, each of us needs to raise $1,900 to go on the trip. We will be participating in and supporting the work of A Breeze of Hope and MAP International in Bolivia. A Breeze of Hope provides technical assistance to organizations that work with early childhood development and sexual violence, and assists them in resource development. They also have the only center in Bolivia that provides free legal, social, and psychological services to child victims of sexual violence. The center was started by Eastern graduate, Brisa De Angulo, and has offered free services to over 1,200 children and their families. MAP International takes a holistic approach to community development, especially early childhood development, and has been working in Bolivia for over 25 years to bring hope and health to oppressed communities.
The main focus of this trip is to learn about ways in which we can make the Kingdom of God a reality in the lives of vulnerable, impoverished, and oppressed children and adolescents, many of whom have suffered sexual violence.
While in Bolivia, we will learn about:
-The root causes of poverty in developing countries
-The need for a more holistic and comprehensive approach of missionary work
-The fleshing out of God's kingdom through holistic health and community development
Additionally, we will be volunteering at a community school, a health clinic, a remote village, and a youth center for sexually abused children. As we do this, we will be sharing our love with the children and learning from the Bolivians who are already working there to create change and hope.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers and spread the word of what it is we are attempting to accomplish. We hope this will be a transformative experience, where we will not only realize how blessed we are, but also how much we can do for God’s work in the world.
