On December 9th, Colby was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. It started when she felt a lump and went to her OBGYN to get it checked out. What we thought was something left over after she stopped nursing concerned her Doc enough to do a mammogram which then led to a biopsy and MRI that gave us the news... While Colby knew she had the BRCA1 gene, we definitely weren't expecting this at 34 years old. Good news is we caught it early and it looks like the tumor is relatively small and hasn't spread to the lymph nodes yet.
Tentative Treatment Plan: 6 months of Chemotherapy followed by a double mastectomy and reconstruction.
Part 1 (first 3 months): Chemo once/week
Part 2 (second 3 months): Chemo once every 3 weeks
It's looking like Chemo will start the week of Jan 9th, but we will know an exact date soon. Because Chemo can impact fertility and Milo wants to be a big bro one day, we have been doing a round of IVF that should be complete by this weekend (fingers crossed).
Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, but we hope this is a helpful overview. We appreciate everyone's support and positivity! Colby's got this!
Believe!
