Hi! My name is Zachary Doppenberg, I am from Beamsville, Ontario, Canada. I have been living in Guatemala for 15 years as a missionary helping the poor in any way necessary. Currently I am working with and partnered with AMI coban. I have now decided to fulfill my dream and build a "boulder" rock climbing wall. To be able to provide a safe place for kids and adults to practice and learn about this amazing sport.
All children deserve a safe place to hangout and build relationships with other people, and what better way to do that than through rock-climbing. Access to this rock-climbing wall will ensure that they stay off of the street and away from any possible dangerous, or bad habits. All while building strength, determination, and mental concentration through constant climbing challenges and activities.
Except for one climbing gym 5 hours away from Coban, Alta Verapaz, climbing is non-existent in Guatemala. Through conversation with locals I have discovered the huge interest in the sport, but without the availability to try, nothing happens. Thus why I decided to, with your help, build a climbing wall.
All donations will go completely to structural building, materials, holds, shoes, chalk, all other possible equipment needed, and the wall itself. Here in Coban, Guatemala it rains almost everyday, so aside from the wall itself a roof needs to built overtop in order to protect the wall and everyone who climbs from the challenging weather conditions.
If you share the same dream as me, and want to help, know that you will be providing so many people with the opportunity to explore the most amazing sport. Where one is required to grow so much physically as in mentally, everyone should have the opportunity to experience this sport, in a healthy and supportive community facility.
Thank you!
