Problem: Louisiana does not have any handicap-friendly beach access points. There are no wheelchair paths or public fishing piers that access the Gulf of Mexico. The state is hesitant to build the structures due to the high likelihood of hurricane damage.
Solution: Build a handicap accessible trailer that can be brought out onto the beach during enjoyable weather and then easily towed to safety when storms approach.
The Coastal Access Foundation is a Louisiana-based nonprofit dedicated to making our beautiful coastal beaches accessible to everyone, including individuals who are handicapped or mobility-challenged. Through partnerships with local charities and community organizations, we plan to design and build ADA-compliant beach access trailers that remove barriers and open the shoreline to families who have too often been left on the sidelines. Your support will help turn compassion into action—funding equipment, construction, and outreach so that more people can experience the healing, joy, and freedom of the coast. Every donation brings us one step closer to a future where the beach truly belongs to everyone. Open Shores for all!
