Bike Ride Fundraising for our friend May
Donation protected
My name is Neil Glover, and my friend Jason Green and I are competing in arguably the toughest and most demanding cycle race in the UK. It goes from Seascale on the west coast to Whitby Bay on the east. It normally takes four to five days to compete, but we are planning to do it in 18 hours non-stop. We will ride 150 miles and climb over 15,000 feet in altitude.
We are doing this to support our dear friend May Caguicla Hoare who has been bravely battling breast cancer since 2013. In that year May endured a double mastectomy, removal of lymph nodes, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. This gave May some well-deserved, temporary remission, during which she and her doctors fought hard to combat this dreadful disease.
Unfortunately, the cancer returned in 2018 and May’s treatment resumed. Operations were done to remove the new tumour and previous implants, before reconstructive surgery could take place. In 2019 the cancer recurred yet again – the third time in six years. Once more May had to fight, and a new regime of chemo and radiotherapy was put in place. However, in March 2020 May received the devastating news that the breast cancer had metastasised in her bones, chest wall, ribs and the lymph nodes in her neck.
There is no curative treatment. May has been told she is terminally ill, and she now receives palliative medication to help prolong her life.
May’s daughter is 22, and May has many friends who love her too. However, most of her blood relatives live in the Philippines and in Italy.
May is facing all this very bravely, but she knows now is the time to arrange and pay for her funeral. She needs our financial help so that the burden for this does not fall on her daughter. Also, if possible, May would dearly love to travel to the Philippines for the last time, to see her elderly mother who is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease.
Please consider supporting our GoFundMe by making a donation and, if possible, sharing it with others. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. 100% of what you donate will go to May.
