Help Coal Breathe Easy: Life-Saving Surgery for a Special Kitten
Coal was born with a severe chest deformity called pectus excavatum, where his ribs and sternum were collapsing inward — quite literally crushing his heart and lungs. Without surgery, Coal would not survive.
On Tuesday the 17th of June he underwent a complex procedure to place a splint over his ribs in hopes of reshaping his chest and giving him the chance of a future. The surgery was high-risk, painful, and expensive. But it was his only shot.
Coal came to us with his siblings, Anise and Liquorice, from a home where they weren’t safe or cared for. The environment was heavily neglected — the floors were sticky with grime, and the kittens had been handled roughly by young children who didn’t understand how fragile they were. These kittens were surviving, not thriving.
We are a small, volunteer-run rescue doing everything we can for the most vulnerable — the ones other places turn away. Kittens like Coal deserve more than to be dismissed because they’re “too broken” or “too much.” But every life we save comes at a cost — and right now, we’re stretched beyond our limits.
If you’re able to contribute towards Coal’s surgery and ongoing care, we would be so grateful. Every pound makes a difference. And if you can’t donate, please consider sharing his story.
Because Coal didn’t ask to be born broken. But we believe he deserves the chance to grow up whole.
