We created this page in response to the great number of parents and players who asked to donate and help create the Tribute Marker we announced at the 2015 Award Dinner. As a reminder for those who were there and an explanation for those seeing it for the first time, we chose to honor Coach Wales and her ten year career as the head coach with the marker you see pictured. Coach Wales’ lacrosse superstitions are widely known, and her lucky game day shoes were among her most closely-held beliefs. We captured the pair of shoes she wore in her final game and bronzed them. By adding them to this stone marker, we will ensure that Coach Wales’ presence will truly be forever on our lacrosse field.
Coach John Boyle founded the Ursuline Lacrosse program in 2003, and Lori joined him as an assistant in 2006. Her guidance of the program’s growth and success, along with her extensive involvement in the creation of the home field to Ursuline Lacrosse will be forever remembered by her players, their parents and her coaching staff. Coach Wales was the original “LAX mom" who brought snacks to every practice and made sure everyone who wanted to learn to play had access to sticks, goggles, and other necessary equipment. A Division II State Title and a Division I State Title Runner-Up are testaments to her coaching abilities. More importantly, Coach Wales helped foster the relationships formed on and off the lacrosse field between hundreds of girls who made lifetime friendships while learning and playing a game they loved.
One of Ursuline’s current lacrosse coaches, Lindsay Strong (UA ’11), recalls: "I got to know Coach Wales very well throughout my time as an Ursuline Lacrosse player. She is one of the most encouraging, loving, supportive, and generous woman I know. She strived to achieve statewide and national recognition for Ursuline lacrosse by supporting and encouraging players to tryout for national teams and go on to play in college. She has given so much of her time and energy to this program!”
The tribute marker will be placed in the garden at the entrance to the Sister Margaret Ann Moser, O.S.U. Athletic Field. Because the stone used for the marker was required to match the nearby Donor Monument, the cost to produce this piece was higher than we estimated. We invite you to contribute in any amount with the understanding that no amount is too small, and that any funds we collect beyond our goal will be donated to Ursuline in Coach Wales’ honor. We truly appreciate your participation and we thank you for your support.
