For the past decade, Coach Kurtis Scoggins has been a P.E. teacher, football coach, and baseball coach at Adairsville High School. During this time, Coach Scoggins has worked hard to develop athlete’s skills on the field and character off the field. He has sacrificed to ensure that the student-athletes of Adairsville have a quality experience in their high school careers by hosting and working camps, fundraising, working summer weight room for both boys and girls athletics, and running leadership development courses. Additionally, he goes above and beyond by providing rides to AHS athletes that don’t have the ability to travel to school events and donating clothes and meals to the school’s underprivileged students.
Over the past few years, Coach has suffered from chronic lower back issues from degenerative discs, which gives him constant and excruciating back pain. Initially, he was able to manage the pain through chiropractic visits and medication. However, as the disease has worsened, the pain has intensified, creating a conflict that has him on the brink of being unable to perform his services to the Adairsville community and its’ schools. His doctors have informed him that his only option is to participate in a very demanding surgery. Unfortunately, Coach Scoggins surgery will not be covered by insurance and the cost will be over $100,000. Additionally, his doctors have recommended that this surgery take place in Germany, as they are specialists in this type of procedure and will perform the surgery for cheaper. However, the cost of the surgery and flight will still cost the Scoggins family around $60,000.
Coach Scoggins has elected to have this procedure will be flying to Munich, Germany on May 16th, 2015.
Please help Coach Scoggins and his family by making a contribution to help with the cost of the procedure, so he can get back to good health and continue fulfilling his life’s work: coaching and teaching Adairsville’s Tigers!
