For years, Robert McAllister, fondly know to all of us as Coach Mac, has served as a spirit of inspiration and motivation to our kids, communities, and many of us. Coach Mac has consistently given every ounce of himself to the development our young student-athletes. He has spent countless hours mentoring, educating, and praying for and with them; in the hopes of giving them the strength they need to push harder, study longer, and live better.
For those of you that have had personal interaction with Coach Mac, you have witnessed the warmth in his smile. You have seen his ability to walk into a room and create a positive atmosphere that takes away the darkest cloud. Whether it's 5:00 am in the morning or 8:00 pm at night, Coach Mac has always made every student-athlete he has trained feel as if they were the only person in the room.
As many of you have heard (and some are beginning to hear), several months Coach Mac was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. Since the diagnosis, Coach Mac has made efforts to change his diet and his routine in hopes of avoiding surgery and other forms of therapy. Even through his battle, he has continued to support and develop the young athletes he works with on a daily basis. With a smile, an encouraging word, and a silent prayer for those he meets; Coach Mac is truly one of a kind!!
Unfortunately, Coach Mac and his family will need to take a more aggressive approach to fight the disease. On Friday, September 16th, Coach Mac will have surgery to remove his prostate. We are optimistic for a positive outcome but ask that you keep him and his family in prayer through the procedure and his long recovery.
Our goal with the fundraiser is to raise enough money to help cover a portion of the surgical cost, care during his recovery, and financial assistance while he is unable to coach and train during his recovery. Should any extra funds be raised, a significant portion will be donated to the St. Jude Children's Hospital to support cancer research. Although Coach Mac has been dealt a difficult circumstance, with support from each of us, we will see him win this battle together.
