Coach Jeff Cade Fundraiser

We all undoubtedly had a coach positively impact our lives and/or the lives of our children and loved ones. A coach who not only taught the game but also gave inspirational lessons in life and character building.

For many of the Northern Nevada soccer community this coach was Jeff Cade. Jeff gave all of himself to the game and the lessons it can teach. He committed himself fully to coaching his “kids”.

Unfortunately, over the past few years Jeff’s health has failed him and he is no longer able to coach. In actuality he is in the fight for his life.

Initially in early 2020, he was experiencing difficulties with balance and speech. His symptoms continued to worsen and he was finally diagnosed with a rare terminal neurodegenerative disease (ALSP).

Jeff is currently being cared for at a Skilled Nursing and Rehab Hospital is trying to build his strength and gain the mobility independence required to go home and live with his family. He essentially requires assistance with everything from getting out of bed to dressing and managing his wheelchair.

He has begun walking short distances again with assistance and a walker. While he is getting basic medical assistance, some of his care such as physical therapy is no longer paid for by insurance. Paying for caregivers at home will not be covered by insurance. As you can imagine, these necessities are extremely costly and some essential care will inevitably be missed due to financial shortcomings.

We've got good news! Our soccer community leadership have come together and are proud to announce a collaborative phone and email fundraiser launching October 10-14. You will hear more details about this fundraiser shortly so you can participate.

A Celebration for Coaches as a fundraiser and fun soccer community gathering in honor of Jeff Cade will cap this campaign. The grand event will be held at the new Reno Swift Sportsdome South Meadows on October 15 at 6 pm. You are invited and encouraged to attend. It wouldn't be the same without you!

There will be an exciting penalty kick shootout competition as well as some great silent auction items available for bidding. You'll get to see all of your soccer friends as well.

Funds donated and raised will go directly to Jeff’s uncovered medical care expenses such as caregiving and physical therapy.
