Keep Jason Coaching

Jason Violette has been coaching gymnastics for 20 years. Numerous girls have benefitted from his expertise as a coach, but the one thing that they would all agree on is that Jason is much more than a coach. He is a friend, teacher, mentor, therapist, and role model. Coaching, in Jason's words, makes him feel alive. Overcoming some difficult childhood experiences motivated Jason to dedicate his life to making an impact in the lives of kids. As the parents of some of his gymnasts, we know he does this every day.
But years of coaching and spotting gymnastics take a toll on the body, and last summer, while spotting the channel bar pit, Jason took a fall from upstairs at the gym down 12 feet to the lower level. In the process, he suffered a labral tear of the hip. Despite physical therapy, Jason still suffers from significant pain that is affecting his quality of life, he is unable to do his job the way he wants to, unable to sleep without pain, unable to participate in his favorite pastime, running. Repair surgery is not an option because years of abuse on his body has resulted in arthritis of the hip joint. Jason's only surgical option is a hip replacement. This would take him out of coaching at least for a while and would require multiple hip replacements over his lifetime. Fortunately, there is a newer promising treatment that can help Jason regain his quality of life, and keep him coaching. PRP (Platelet-rich plasma) and stem cells will be injected into the four main injury points. He has begun this therapy. Unfortunately, it is expensive and not yet covered by workman's compensation or other health insurance. The total cost will be roughly $7,000.
Selfishly, we all want Jason to continue coaching. Jason not only wants to keep coaching, he needs to. Coaching is not only what he does; it's who he is. But one doesn't become a coach for the money. This is a significant expense and it is our thought that this is a way we can give back to Jason, to show him our appreciation for all he has done and continues to do for our girls.
Jason has already been billed $1,000, and has around $6,000 more to pay in the coming months. All funds raised will go directly to Jason's medical bills. Let's show him what a bunch of determined gymnasts and their families can do! This was not Jason's idea, he is much more comfortable giving than receiving, but we think this is the least we can do. We know Jason and Yuri will be incredibly grateful!
