Help Coach get back on his feet

Like a true Capricorn, I am “Slightly” stubborn and have a hard time asking for help. It saddens and, quite frankly embarrasses me to be in need and asking for help, but it necessary at this point. I am reaching out to you because I have finally started a GoFundMe campaign to help me “get back on my feet” (pun intended).

On January 21st of this year, I tripped on an uneven sidewalk in Georgia Avenue and broke my leg. I actually shattered the tip of my tibia. The next day, I had the first of four surgeries to stabilize the leg and to put on an external fixation. I had to wait two weeks for the swelling to reduce enough to have the second surgery to install a plate, screws and a halo. My original recovery period was four to six months, with no weight on the leg for three months. Unfortunately, my recovery went sideways. After a short recovery period, I was transferred to a crappy rehab facility. Due to poor wound care, I developed an infection. I was re-admitted to GW where I had the third and fourth of my surgeries to remove the hardware and clean up the knee. I did rehab at GW and at a place in Chevy Chase. I did well, but in mid-May, my insurance company determined that I couldn’t make any more progress until I could put weight on the leg. I was in limbo from mid-May until July 3rd when I received approval to put weight on the leg.

Next up in my recovery is another evaluation and six weeks of outpatient physical therapy. If that wasn’t enough, complications with my recovery may affect my ability to walk, so I will require the use of a cane, walker. Worst case is that I will have to continue to use a wheelchair.

Dealing with the injury has been an ordeal, but dealing with hospitals and insurance companies has been hellaciously difficult. Due to this, I have not been sharing much. I am  staying positive and will update regularly.

The donations will help with medical bills, transportation expenses and, regular life expenses. Due to the steps and narrowness of my apartment, I need to find temporary and possibly permanent disabled accessible housing. I will also use a portion to get back to work. Due to my financial need, I am reluctantly asking for your help. If you could support my campaign by donating and then sharing with your network, I would greatly appreciate i†. I know money is tight, so please know that even $10 will help me recover and regroup from this unfortunate event. If you cannot donate I totally understand, but if you could share, it would be helpful.

Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll be happy to answer them.

Thank you all for your help and support!
