On February 16 2023, the Capital District unexpectedly lost one of our beloved coaches, Scott Morley. He has been a fixture in our local hockey world for many years. He shared his love of the game with so many players. He especially took great pride in coaching his sons Mack Morley and Owen Morley thru the years. Coach Morley was also a long time local adult league player in the Capital District.
Coach Morley was an integral part of the Schenectady Youth Hockey (SYHA) from 2017 to 2019 and Troy Albany Youth Hockey (TAHA) from 2019 to 2023. He set the example of what a youth coach is supposed to be. He cared for his players and shared his love for the game.
Coach Morley also served on local boards including, Twin Rivers Council Boy Scouts of America where he received the Silver Beaver award, Rensselaer Land Trust, and Brown School serving in several roles including chairman of the board.
He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth of Annapolis, Md.; his beloved wife, Nancy, and his sons, Owen and Mack of Albany. He is also survived by his sisters, Margaret (Jamie) of Phoenix, Ariz., and Sarah (Charles) of Mahomet, Ill.; his brother, James (Libby) of Odenton, Md.; and his nieces and nephews, Charlies, George, Kial, Margaret, Lucas, and Presley.
Coach Morley was a true assets to our local community and will be greatly missed.
To carry on the legacy of Coach Morley’s giving and love for the game we have created the Coach Morley Memorial Fund.
This fund will be specifically used to purchase a Memorial Bench for each rink, SCRF and Frear Park. Any remaining funds will be split equally between TAHA and SYHA and used to help families facing financial difficulties offset some registration fees.
Please note the time frame of this request, all donations will help us meet our goal as soon as possible. We will be hosting a memorial gather on April 15th at The Park Pub in Troy NY. We will lift our glasses in honor of Coach Morley one more time and hope to present the Memorial Bench’s to the respective organizations at this time.
