I wanted to let everyone know that we've endured a wrestling family emergency.
This past Friday night (3/8), my dedicated assistant coach, Rick Miller, while traveling with our IWCOA state qualifiers (members of our new girls team and a sophomore boy) down in Springfield, IL, suffered a heart attack.
Before it was confirmed to be a heart attack, and given the tough, selfless (and stubborn!) man that he is, he was even planning to coach on Saturday. However, after a serious phone conversation on Saturday morning, we were able to convince him to go to the ER. After a full day of tests and procedures, they determined that he indeed suffered a heart attack. As of today (Sunday) he's doing okay, in good spirits and good hands, but is scheduled to have bypass surgery on Monday afternoon (3/11). It's a serious surgery, but doctors fully expect it to go well.
Given that this is a significant medical procedure happening several hours away from his home (in Springfield) with significant travel, lodging, meal and recovery expenses for his family and given that he will be missing a significant amount of work/wages from his job as a teacher's aide at Batavia High School, I wanted to appeal to the hearts of our Batavia Community.
I've arranged to cover his wife's hotel stay for much of this week, but much more is needed.
Rick gives all of himself to the guys and girls on our team and to the students in the classroom with whom he works.
He and his family could now use our help.
