Families are facing unprecedented challenges as recent cuts to WIC and SNAP have left many struggling to afford groceries.

In May, through this partnership, we sent 19 $150 Hungryroot gift cards (nearly $3000) to help families and individuals navigating food insecurity, disability, job loss, caregiving, medical challenges, and life transitions.

These cards went to single parents raising children alone after separation, deportation, widowhood, foster adoption, or absent support; families coming out of homelessness or currently living in motels while trying to rebuild stability; parents caring for children with autism, disabilities, chronic illness, ARFID, food allergies, and high support needs; disabled adults, caregivers, and people managing serious medical conditions, surgeries, chronic illness, mobility loss, and mental health challenges; households impacted by lost SNAP benefits, reduced assistance, unemployment, reduced work hours, and rising grocery costs; families stretched thin by caregiving responsibilities, medical bills, vehicle loss, and unexpected financial emergencies; working parents, teachers, social workers, and caregivers doing everything they can to keep food on the table despite incredibly difficult circumstances; and people trying to provide healthier, nourishing meals for their families while balancing impossible budgets and overwhelming life situations.

In June the House of Representatives passed a bill cutting 141 million from WIC’s fruit and vegetable benefit.

Dropping the assistance from 52 dollars a month to 13 dollars a month for breastfeeding moms.

From $26 a month to $10 a month for young children.

Whether this passes or not, families are struggling, and they need more help not less.

So I want to cover groceries for 6 months to a year for a family who could really use the help right now.

And I’m calling you in to help me.

This month - whatever I’m able to pull together with this - Hungryroot is doubling it, as a part of our partnership, up to $5000.

So if we come up with $5000 - a family in need will get a gift card for $10,000 to use for groceries. (A funds above and beyond that will be added to the gift card total)
